PART 1: WAKE UP!
Has anyone watched the news lately? Is any of it good? It’s just too hard for me to swallow anymore. I miss Peter Jennings and Dan Rather. The days of Ed Bradley and Lesley Stahl. The days when news consisted of the facts, and nothing else. Seems now, every network has ten programs about how shitty things are and who’s to blame. And personally, I’m sick and tired of it.
We have become a nation overwhelmed with shiftless and lazy whiners. Armchair quarterbacks, sitting on the sidelines content to watch from the bench. But no one wants to help the team win. We have chosen the path of least resistance, and it’s going to kill us all. We have spent the last several years having our lives dictated to us, and we just take it. Is there such a thing as consensual rape? Are we really the victims in all this? I don’t believe that.
Truth is, we struggle because we choose to. We should have a government of the people, by the people and for the people, yet we refuse to govern ourselves. Instead, we pick names from a hat to do the heavy lifting, while watch over their shoulders. And should they falter, we are right there to tell them everything they did wrong, with the help of Fox News or Glenn Beck, and no real solution to remedy the issue. We worry too much about whom our leaders are going to be and not enough about taking responsibility for our own communities.
We want everything done for us, everything handed to us. We pay out hard earned money for simple conveniences and wonder why we can’t afford our mortgages. Really? Is it worth it? We are constantly spoon-fed (by choice), someone else’s agenda or opinion and use it as our own. Where has it gotten us? Bill O’Reilly’s life is peaches and cream. Is Rachel Maddow’s home under foreclosure? I doubt it. We complain about corporations and Wall Street having all the money. The top one percent. But it’s our money they have. We give it to them every day. Action speaks louder than words. It’s time to put up or shut up.
